Would it be the Tu5J4 or the Tu5JP4?
  3. #3
    It's a j4, a 2 prong head one at that!
  4. #4
Cheers mate i can get ordering some bits now then.

Going on what it looks like TU5J4 as its highly unlikely someone would put JP4 covers on an older engine. There are probably other ways to tell but Im not hot on the 16vs

    TU5J4

    or NFX.

    damn, too slow lol

I thought mk2`s had an egr valve on the front & mk1`s didn`t,or am I wrong?

Going back to this it seems alot of websites ECP, GSF etc all have different things stocked when i enter my reg. Example:-

Opie oils say i should use these spark plugs - NGKBKR6EZ

Where as GSF say these - NGKBKR6EK Am i right in thinking it is these ones?

Again GSF only one type of headgasket which says NFX (TU5JP4) is this ok for my car - http://www.gsfcarparts.com/parts/eng...er-head-gasket

Are the timing belt kits ok from GSF or is it best to get a SKF one from ECP with the discount codes? Oilspill30 for anyone that needs one.

    Thanks guys.

    Anyone?

Having a quick look in the Haynes its say 16v engines are TU5JP4 NFX.

TU5JP looks like it only applies to 8v engines looking in here.

The difference in spark plugs in minute, use the ones opie recommends.
  11. #11
It's mainly the headgasket that I need to find out.

ECo also recommend the NGKBKREK so think I will go with them. Doesn't one of them have a longer thread which could cause probelms ig my spark plug isnt far enough into the head.

thats what the 2 prongs on the front of the head are for
this is a later 16v that would have that and its quite common to see them removed

btw its NOT an EGR valve it goes nowhere near the exhaust it pumps fresh air into the head on cold start to help emissions on the europena mainland as theyre stricter than the uk

Do we have a final answer yet?

I don't want to go and buy the wrong parts.
  14. #14
Come on guys and girls someone must have a answer surely.

I dont want to go buying the wrong parts especially headgaskets etc get halfway through and the job and realise its the wrong one.

The only reason im asking so much is i cant really get in the garage at the minute to check the code on the engine itself.

its a j4 as allready said
thats all you should need to know to get a headgasket
  16. #16
    its 100% a TU5J4

    Cheers guys.

Always good to double check so GSF stock the wrong headgasket then.

The Haynes manual also threw me off alittle as they have all 16v models down as a JP4
