Right, i was all happy today with getting the top up on my loan, and so went to pay the rest of the balance on my vts engine, to be told oh its not a 16v vts engine, its a 16v 106 gti engine.

I dont really give a crap, as they are the same right?

Its from a 99 106 gti with single plug ecu and mine is a 98 vtr with single plug ecu.

The guy assures me that it will be fine, and will not involve much more work to fit if any, apart from replacing the chip from the gti's key somewhere so that it will start.

But will there be any complications however seeing as ill be now mating a vtr loom to a gti loom (albiet both single plugs) instead of vtr to a vts loom, as i hear some of the connectors are different and that the gti has some extra wires?

    why is nothing simple.

i thought you needed the wiring loom and ecu from the donor car to set it up?

There essentially the same engine the only thing I've ever heard anyone say when fitting a GTI engine is that a few of the sensors are different but that's about it.

This guide will explain what to do in regards to unlocking the ECU and the Pug chip.

At least you got some form of 16v engine I didnt think you would at one stage .

I think as long as you have the loom off the gti engine then you should be fine. The immobiliser may be the awkward part.

Also you have to sort out a fuel return line as the vts has one but the vtr doesnt.

You can just block that up I believe.

106 gti engine loom and saxo engine loom are different you cant just plug them in, you need the saxo vts loom to plug it in to your saxo or re-wire it.

think insurance may look at it different to being an engine from a different make even tho there so simmilar just a thought tho
