    Hi all,

I have a VTS phase 2 which im planning on turning into a track car. I read another thread the other day about brake upgrades, and somebody said they can supply all relevant parts, I cant remember their username but I think the company name was USPmotorsports. Has anybody got a link to a website or thread??

I dont have enough posts to view the for sale section at present.

Im looking to do a 283m brake conversion and have already picked up callipers from a Xsara VTS which afaik are the same as 306GTI ones. So im looking for discs, MC, lines etc.

I may scrap the 283 idea and go with 266 if its easier to get hold of relevant parts.

    Thanks

Sell up and slap a set of CL Brakes pads on the car. Big donor discs and calipers spoil a cars handling

    ill second kams post
ran stock 247s on my track saxo for this year with ap 5.1 fluid and CL RC5+ pads and they never missed a beat
still tons of life left in them aswell but theyre just sat on the shelf now as i fitted my hi specs that were just sat there lol

can feel a difference in the cars response due to the extra weight though but they look bling

ive never really considered the extra weight of bigger calipers ruining the cars handling. would it really make that much difference?

Calipers are lighter (ie brembo, hispec) it's the discs. And they're considerably heavier. 1kgs heavier a side for 283mm over 266mm solid discs. If you're going 283/285mm, it's advisable to go hub/rotor setup but these start at around £500 just for the discs.

Standard (cast) calipers off another car like the OP's weigh a TON. Combined with the bigger discs really make the suspension crashy imo.

Either compromise by getting billet calipers and cast discs, stay small disc and use ace pads, or go full bore (big budget) billet calipers and hubs/rotors.

The benefit of changing the pads to CL Brakes is the better modulation and braking confidence as they are so consistent. I'd rather run smaller brakes with a good compound than big brakes with OE

283mm calipers, discs and pads are just shy of 25kg
