Loud grind noise when starting

   Don't think it's a problem because it very rarely does it. When I come to start the engine it makes a very loud grind noise and won't start. So I wait 5 seconds and try again it fires up fine. Any one know what causes this? Very very rarely happens though.

   Sounds like starter motor is faulty.

   As above,worn cog on the starter.

   At worse it could be ring gear on flywheel, I had a old sierra with the same thing and the pain is the gearbox has to come out to change and also need access to oxy/cet heat gear.

   Easier to change the complete flywheel. Theres plenty of good second hand ones about
   
   But as said.. Starter issue. Dont worry unless it does it more often than it starts
