fault code p0440

    does anyone know what can cause this fault?
    currently the engine just turns over but makes no attempt to fire up, have tried changing the fuel cap, but just wondering what other things i should check/be looking for?

    According to my fault code book po440 is listed as,Evaporative emissission control system malfunction.Which is a canister up inside the drivers side wing,& doesn`t do much so can be removed mate.
