Clutch...

I just picked up a saxo furio and was told by the owner it would need a new clutch (so a mechanic told him) and just wanted to see what you guys thought.

The gearbox itself seems to change with no problems all feels smooth, but when I push the clutch peddle down it feels very stick almost like its rubbing against something.

Now i am in no way mechanically minded so didnt want to get ripped off thats all.

They wouldnt sell a car and tell you a clutch was fucked if it wasnt, for most they'd try avoid telling you that.

Clutch should come up and down freely, if its sticking its not right.

How far do you have to let your foot off the pedal before you get to the biting point? If it's sticking could be as simple as the cable is snagging or something as bad as a buggered thrust bearing

    Bull

Been told clutch was fucked on a few cars when it was infact the gearbox, I knew it was, but so did they

Don't believe anything anyone tells you unless you know for a fact

But in this case it sounds like a few fingers may have snapped on the clutch or bearing perhaps

Sounds like my one when it went.

Clutch kit off Euro Car Parts for £65 and fitted it in about 2 hours.

I bought the car from a friend, I am only told what they were told by there mechanic, i got the car really cheap so new there was a bit of work to do to it (it also needs a new cat) but just wanted to make sure she wasnt being conned by her mechanic thats all as he has done a lot of work to the car recently.

Hard to tell over the Internet best thing is to do pull the handbrake up and lift the clutch up slowly in first gear with then engine running. If you can lift you foot all the way off or nearly off then I would say new clutch needed.

This snagging could be a number of things.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the advice, found a mate at work who is going to take a look at it for me just to see what it will need doing to it, I will et you guys know what actually did need doing to it once he has seen it, might not be until the new year though.
