Door 'check straps' problem

  1. #1
Owned our Saxo for about 3 weeks now and working our way through the faults it has.

Next up on the list is the check straps that stop the door opening too far.

The bit that bolts to A pillar is there on both sides but the bit that bolts to the door is not there.

Took the passenger side panel off and couldn't see anything so then took the drivers side one off as the window was making a clunk as it reached the bottom. The clunk turned out to be the other part of the check strap.

Having wrestled it back together I tried to refit it. Out came the speaker and then undid the bottom widow guide screw so I could move it away as much as I could (Still a tight squeeze). Went to bolt it in and noticed one of the holes the studs go in wasn't there. It looks like where the hole should be the has been ripped off so its currently only bolted in with one 10mm nut.

So what I want to know is........Is this a common problem (Strange as its on both doors) and also is there an easy way to change it?

Common problem, not that hard to fit new ones

Common problem for the nuts to work loose, seen it several times

Should be ok with just one done up.

Maybe put some locktite on. Or double nut it, so it won't work itself loose again

    EDIT:
The missing bit, is that off the door or check strap?
If its the check strap just get another.

    Its off the door.

Was going to use a large washer first then the nut (With some loctite)

Its a common problem, mainly due to people not keeping the check straps lubricated.

    Are they handed?

Can I put a passenger side one on the drivers side?
