Few questions! all in one thread

Search wont work on my phone sorry guys.. New to the saxworld..

Right.. Just got a vtr and after having big brakes on my old Corsa the vtr brakes feel awful, this normal or could it be a mixture of old/shit components? Whats best to replace with? Product names?

Lowering - going to lower the car over the xmas period; looking at the Apex 50mm spring/damper kit.. Will this be half decent for handling as i have heard 35/40mm would be better? True/false?

Strut braces - Now i want to fit these to the sax, ive heard the lower strut is a lot more effective than the upper however down 50mm would this create problems? Are upper braces worth it or the two together or just one or the other?

Seats - want to run driver side bucket and harnesses then eventually get passenger too.. What seats have people ran and have good words for? Same with harnesses and where to mount them?

Wheel - the likes of the OMP etc the snap off type, worth it or stay with standard?

Quickshift - My mate has the linkage type for sale; for the sake of 20 quid.. Cant go wrong??

Exhaust - i currently have a Alten Performance Group N backbox with a homebrew straighthrough.. Now the likes of the mani i cba relocating oil filter etc being a mk2.. What mani doesnt do this? I think id prefer 4-2-1 as it seems to be the mani of choice on saxp.. I love the look and sound of the saxsport and im a fan of pops and bangs but seems the vtrs dont like to pop and bang if theyre running correctly so is it worth the money for absaxsport or am i just wasting my cash?

Induction - currently have the Pipercorss sponge cone fikter on there for temporary however i would like to change to something a little better... The BMC CDA or rhe Ramair feed tyoe? Cheap raceland or full on simota aero? Difference in the two for the money?

Rear compensator - now ive heard qhen lowered saxos tend to turn rwd when on the stoppers.. Is this true and worth adjusting the compensator or no?

All in one thread instead of making loads!

Loads of people dont renew their brake fluid, so for the cost of a bottle of fluid, do that if youre unsure of the history. Ive found OE pads and discs to be fine, Mintex do good stuff too and can be found at a lot of motor factors.

I havent used the Apex kit, so Im not sure. Ive used Koni stuff in the past and that was good stuff. Currently on H&R springs and Bilstein dampers which are excellent.

Ive only found the lower brace a problem on really chronic speed bumps. The lower one does make a fair bit of difference I found, upper is debatable as the strut tops are so close to the bulkhead and connected to it. You can normally pick up a pair for about 50 quid, so it wont hurt.

I have a pair of Corbeau Forzas which I like - nice and supportive, but not uncomfortable on a long drive. Fairly light too. Ill have them for sale soon though, as I need to go to seats which will allow me to chuck my dogs in the back!

Im using Luke harnesses, 3" ones. Run them to eyes bolted in where the rear seatbelt buckles would be.

That the Griffiths type? Havent used one, though people have said theyre ok, only affect throw front to back, not side to side.

No idea what manis fit as standard! Best sounding exhaust is the BTB imo, but its overkill for a standard car.

BMCs are overrated. A Raceland with a green filter in it isnt a bad kit.

Yes, you need to back the compensator off or itll put excess braking on the back end.

Alright, well I'm new to this too and only have a 1.1 but I'll do my best to help!

I had this with my Saxo, specially after having learnt in a fiesta where you tap the breaks and the car gets rear-ended going into the saxo if I did that I'd end up rear-ending someone! However this I found was due to the age of the car, the brakes were pretty old and were crap little ones the previous owner had fitted in a garage for a tenner each Now yours will be full disc brakes, so I would suggest on going to any site and searching them up and reading reviews on them, although I know a friend who has Ferodo and well he likes them. Another good idea is to check the brake fluid levels.

Now with my 1.1 I'm just starting by using the torsion bars to lower it and will get a lowering kit when I can afford, however I would be getting adjustable ones, so I can find out which height works for me, realistically I would drive at 35/40 ish and send it down when its parked up...

Well personally I'm having both as I feel that the more the better, just to keep it stiff, every little helps for handling I guess, though others might shed more knowledge on this as its just my friend who's making me the braces so he knows more than me

Seats & Wheels - Personally I reckon I'll stick it with regular seats or if I do change wont rock the buckets, though my mind could change. As for wheels I'm going to try to pick up some MSW by OZ alloys with 45 profiles, however I think with everything its personal views, as my friend prefers standard VTS alloys so really its personal preference...

Quickshift - My mate has the linkage type for sale; for the sake of 20 quid.. Cant go wrong??
Quickshift systems do reduce throw, and although some say if you slam it fast enough you can change as the same speed, however I found when I went for quick shifts, it felt like the stick was going to snap-off haha so I would suggest it! I'm rocking this http://www.kamracing.co.uk/car-tunin...ckshift-1.html and I do prefer it, just makes it a bit smoother I find...

Exhaust - Cant help you there mate, my friends dealing with that for me so yeah no help.

I'm using an K&N 57i Gen I and it is incredible, great noise and just felt alot like it had been let off its leash, plus pipercross is pure turd so swap that! Make sure you get a Cold Pipe as they don't offer too much power difference I found otherwise.

I suggest as I've been pretty useless help, making separate threads would be a better option, as others might be more willing to take time to reply. Tried my best to help, sorry I'm not that helpful!

    Merry Christmas!

How low are you man? Im tempted by running lower strut but dont wanna rip my engine out on a bump!

Your right it does look shit lol, what about the likes of the airbag though? like if you do manage to crash as saxos like to errrr... fold

Not sure on the type or brand, but i believe it does shorten the front/back throw like you said, goes onto the linkages if that helps!

    Easy job to do?

    Merry Christmas!
Thanks for all your info buddy! I see what you mean but it means clogging the forum with loads of posts, and when i need to go back to it, i just go onto one thread opposed to like 8

    Merry Crimbo to you too!

I like this thread, it asks some of the questions I have.

I also think the brakes on my VTRs are poor but no 'real' idea of the condition of any of the parts. Reading the forum the 266mm setup seems to be popular and effective.
