Passenger door popping open/hard to shut

  1. #1
    Hi guys
My passenger door on my mk2 VTR likes to just pop open
Not swinging open, but from the locked position, to the first latch
    Why is it doing this?

Also its hard to shut the door flush to the car
Sometimes it well stop at the first latch and need a push to get it to sit flush!
    What's going on?

    Thanks

Sounds like the door striker on the door shut needs to be adjusted out a bit.

Are you meaning the latch, on the inside of the door frame, bolted to the bodywork?
if so, ive adjusted that around already - to no avail!

even with the door seal taken off, still does it!

i had this on my old vts, adjusted the latch and still popped open, so wrapped some insulation tape on the latch and worked fine

I've tried that - maybe used too much?
It's weird though, I can get the door to sit flush, but a gentle nudge on the door from the inside and the door literally pops open! Not even getting caught on the 1st latch!

think i only wrapped tape round mine twice, could always try taking some off to see if it works.

it's either that or the actual lock inside the door is buggered.

Yeah I will try some tape!
But I'm beginning to suspect a knackered lock!

Unless anyone can think of anything before tomorrow, I'm going to be hunting scrap yards for a door lock mechanism
I assume it must be that, that is worn and unable to 'catch the latch'

I had this problem and its deff the door latch/locking unit. Like you say best to get one from the breakers and pop it on should sort it out.

    Problem solved
    For future reference for others
I replaced my door lock mechanism, problem solved

    Very easy once practiced

    Take door card off
    Remove weatherproof sheet
    Undo 3 Torx screws
Undo door handle - pull forward and want from door
    Unhinge long door pull rod
Force wire from exterior door handle
Remove the unit and unplug central locking - hope that helped?

    Cheers
It never swung open properly, just sat on the 1st latch

Yer same. You would be driving down the road and then all of a sudden it would pop open and you would just hear loads of wind. Is funny if you have a passenger, they poo them selves when you are going round a corner lol

Just told passengers to hold the door - problem solved haha
