Gripper LSD for road/track

   Is it a good option for road and track setup?
   
   The car is not a daily - I am doing about 5-7k miles per year and don't mind rebuilding it once a year.
   As for trackdays and racing - it`s tarmac in summer, ice in winter.
   What angles would suit my need better?
   I will cost me roughly 1200 pounds with install without syncros oil and seals.
   
   Another option is just fit 4.5 final drive but I am not sure I will be able to find one. Obviously its much cheaper...
   
   I don`t consider quife due to not being efficient (I will be hitting kerbs, and I doubt it will work on ice) and it will cost me almost the same as Gripper.
   
   At the moment its 120hp VTS engine, will be 150hp (743+predator).

   you have forgotten that you need to buy bolt on gears for a gripper to use it in MA box
   so by the time you have bought gripper dif +crown wheel + pinion you will be looking at £1000.
   std crwon wheel is shrink fit in MA box
   If you have a BE box fitted ,then of course the bolt gears from std BE box will fit

   1200 is the number I was told our Gripper importer, all the parts and labor
   It might be cheaper then in UK.
   
   I suppose Gripper makes MA suitable diff - not true?

   i have a gripper in mine
   they can be set differently (spring rates and ramp angles dictate how agressive they are) mines on quite a light setting and was brilliant tbh
   
   but yes gripper crown and pinion are needed to be able to use it

   If your talking just fit onme to your open diff, Last i looked it was only around £500 gearbox shaft and diff unit. They may still have them stocked new. If your going used the old AX 4x4 have them. Some of the bigger cars with MA boxes also came with very low final drives. I used to have one out of a old BX 1.4.

   my point was that a quafe ATB is only £560-,but you use std crwon wheel --yes it will work fine in ma ,but if you feel that your usage is very harsh ,then maybe you should look at fitting BE --if only for bigger no. of plates in dif and larger drive splines and shafts .
   ma is ok for track use but if i was speccing for forest rally car then I would go for BE--I asssume your ice racing is similar ot forest

   Actually I decided to sort out the engine first (gotta do it this winter) and then after I get all the telemetry data from tracks I drive I'll be thinking about transmission - the final drive choice is really important imo and should be done right as the last bit. Depending on budget and parts available will choose one of these:
   -4.5/4.3 FD in MA box
   -fit gripper in MA box
   -swap to BE box + gripper (seems more sensible long term)
   
   the problem is finding the BE box with the right gearing might be a big problem in Russia
   
   I try to be tender on boxes, the setup will be mild NA ~155hp.
   As for ice racing - it's the least heavy duty usage as the tyres are studded road ones so its very slippery and you have to be very light on the right foot. If it was full on rally studded tyres then the transmission could suffer especially with LSD.
   
   The problem is the my gearbox is already showing signs of wear (syncros crunch occasionally and the 2d gear rarely fall out on heavy bumps) - not sure It will wait till I make the choice and have the budget for the best option...

   if it jumps out of gear --suspect engine mountings moving about too much and pulling the linkage
