Airbag light is on perm...

    Hi, As title...

I start the car and it goes off, then comes back on after about 5 seconds.
No flashing or anything.... Does this light mean the airbag will not work in the event of a crash ?

Should i have a fiddle with those orange wires under the seat ?

How many airbags your car got? is the o-ring behind the steering wheel ok? if no one fitted an aftermarket steering wheel so no one has never taken it apart chances are the wires under the front seats are causing the fault.

Ye its a totally standard car mate. Apart from outer modifications.

Ill have a gander at the under seat wires tomorrow.

I had that in the work saxo we used to run, just covered it up with tape. Not the best of fix's but we're from devon so bodge jobs are standard

the light being on doesnt bother me. It's the thought of it not working or failing an MOT.

Eh who needs safety anyway, I guess you could put it through a service though? If you're willing to pay. Or just wait till someone who knows about this problem posts..

It should be the orange wires under each seat. If not then it could be the ones on the side of the seats by the handbrake. These are for the seat belts check them aswell. Also if that does not work the air bag control bos is under the middle of the das were the centre console meets the dash. Have a look there and make sure nothing has been pulled out.

It wont fail the mot for that mate. Mines been stuck on sencie i bought the car and the M.O.T place didnt say anything about it!

Cheers for the replies. Does it mean the airbag actually wont work though ?

i think if you crash none of the air bags will go off. i could be wrong but i rember somone saying that to me when they saw mine. but look on the bright side if you crash it will be cheeper to repair if the bags dont go off!

flashing light is supposed to fail mot, but one just there shouldnt

id just disconnect them and connect them back up

have you recently hoovered under the seats? alot of people knock the orange cables under the seats and causes light to come on, just have a wiggle with them

youre right, the airbag or pretensioners wont work, so itll only be your seatbelts. Saxo airbags rarely go off anyway.

Its usually the wires under the seats which are connected to the pretensioners. Try disconnecting the battery and then disconnecting/reconnecting the plugs under the seats.
You can bypass the pretensioners with a 3ohm resistor on each one, so that the airbag light will think everythings ok, which means atleast the steering wheel airbag will still work (hopefully)

all the seatbelt pretensioners do is tension the seatbelt buckle when you have a crash, as to pull the seat belt as hard as it can, so its not a major loss really

my air bag light was on when i had my mot and it 'failed' thought it was a common fault on saxos since nearly everybody who i know has had one has mentioned it happening to their saxos aswel

Yes i sorted it guys. All i did, literally was give the plugs under the front seats a wiggle and a little push. Turned car off and on, sorted. Light went away.
