battery light on in acc position

   Anybody had this problem? My battery light is on when I turn my ignition key to the 'acc' position(steering lock off and can listen to stereo), always had it ever since I bought the car. Is this normal?
   Second question is, when I turn ignition key to next position(when all dash warning lights are on, and before I turn over the engine), should the heater motor run? Mine doesnt, seems strange as in every other car I've had, the heater motor runs.
   Any advice or feedback I am thankful for.

   I know this question has been answered for you now but i thought I would just say when the battery light is on it mean you are using power and the battery is not charging, So the whole time you have the key turned without the engine running this would happen.
