Is this my immobiliser box? Unlocking single plug ECU!

  1. #1
    Hello,

As above, just trying to unlock my ECU before I remove the engine.

I was told I had to remove the plugs from the black box (immobiliser) while the engine was running to unlock the ECU.

I have done this and the car still works fine although it has a keypad immobiliser and I still need to put the code in before starting the car. Do I also need to unplug the keypad while the car is running?

    Help will be thanked

    Immobiliser box (I think)

    Keypad

you've unplugged the wrong box, thats the Central locking control unit, that has two plugs on it, plug that back in and have another rummage around

iirc if you have a keypad there is no immobiliser box.

sure it wasn't already unlocked? just couldn't find the plug?

sometimes they can be a bitch to find tucked up right behind the dash, but the ones i've had with keypads all have had immob boxes.

You can unlock it buy just unplugging the ecu with the ignition on......

Cheers for the help lads, there's no other boxes under there.

Any ideas on how to unlock the ECU?

Would unplugging the actual immobiliser keypad not do the job?

Mine was under my dash was a bit of a fucker to get to but it worked it should be in the passenger side and I believe it's clipped into place! There's only two methods to unlocking....

Do what Tom said above and take the Ecu out while the ignitions on OR get it professional unlocked (I believe cam on here does it)

as welshpug said turn on the car then remove the keypad

Unplugging the ecu with the car on can damage the ecu. It can short the pins out.

Dan mate have a look for this

    cheers for the reply lads.

had the whole dash off and there was no other black boxes.

i ended up unplugging the ecu while the car was running, may not be the correct way and may not be unlocked but too late now as ecu is off and half the loom is removed from the engine.

Cheers for all the help anyway lads.

In my derv dan, I had no other box (like you have discovered). I just unplugged the keypad whilst the engine was running and that unlocked it. Never plugged it back in.

Shame, I've now unplugged the ECU whilst the engine was running and have removed half of the loom. Oh well live and learn .

Cheers Ross, would thank but think I'm all thanked up for this thread.
