Important! : Rear wheels seems to have rather of camber.

This issue is bothering me for months,a while ago the rear axle bearings have been re-placed with bronze ones (http://www.psa-evolution.com/Merc%20...ne%20ponte.JPG) but despite this the rear wheels seems to have a strange camber,i also got a new rear hub's stud (http://www.psa-evolution.com/Merc%20perni%20ponte.jpg) thinking it may cause the fault but i havn't had the chance to fit it yet, could it be causing the camber? i'm really running out of patience now so would appreciate any help.

PS: it doesn't seem to make any issue in driving for now.

This is how wheels looks now (if you need any more photos from a different position just ask):

Also, months ago it was resulting from the convergence form that the rear left wheel had a bit of camber, the right wheel was ok instead,i then re-did the convergence after fitting the bronze bearings but nothing changed apart for the left wheel going a bit worse on camber.

That seems strange. Is it knocking or sounds quite crashy when you go over bumps?

I was hearing some knocking sound coming from the rear especially when cornering BEFORE fitting the new rear bearings, after that the knocking has almost disappeared.

Any rubbing marks on the inner arch? not sure if you can jack it up and "wobble" to see if it has play. Depends how bad it is i guess.

Jus checked, the rear left wheel (left hand drive, driver side) is fine,no marks, the right wheel is very close to the i guess is the chassis,i can hardly put a finger between that space,it's the inner part, and there is like a glossy mark where seems like the wheel could have touched and has taken away the paint,i could make a photo of that?

jack it up and give the wheel some wobble, if its goosed its bad news i guess.
it doesnt look that bad. if it drives fine i wouldnt worry.

    Yeah get a pic up.

If its rubbing the inner arch then yeah i'd say get a "refurbed" one.

    Here's:

I don't hear any rubbing noise tough, also the road has a little hump so it's not perfectly flat, don't know if that would change anything.

Also the wear on the tyre is a sign aswell.

    Its defintatly rubbing there

You also want a close photo of the rear tyres to see the wear?

Haha, nah its ok. If you want ofc.

But it would be easy to check.

No problem, tyres are Yokohama S.Drive, the rear ones have been 1st to the front for around 10,000 kms and now on the rear for about 5,000 kms, around 15.000 kms in total, the front ones have the less wear obviously.

Thats definitely been rubbing there at some point. Usually can get a finger between the back of the tyre and the arch as a very rough guide. (Wheel/tyre choice depending)
  16. #16
Well if it doesn't get worse i could use some 16 mm spacers just to be safe so the wheel shouldn't touch the chassis,i fitted the new bearings a while ago so should be fine,i guess?
  17. #17
It could have been from before then? The marks i mean. I'd jack it up and make sure theres no play as soon as you get a chance to be honest.
If you had the bearings/pins replaced in theory there shouldnt be any play, but you saying there is more room one side than the other isnt a great sign.
I'd have thought you'd have issues with the wheel hitting the outer arch then using spacers that big but someone else will have to confirm.

Yes it's definitively from before i bought the car,if there would be any play that would be strange as the bearings are new,i will check that out as soon as possibile as i wrote before.

These wheel are 6,5 width ET 15,Superturismo WRC,if they were 7 width same ET they would definitively touch the inner arch without any spacers.

Was thinking, could the rear hub's bearing cause that camber? because the one on the right side has to be changed.
  20. #20
I noticed the other day my rear wheels have smiler camber to this. Just thought it was a side affect of having a lowerd car! Also i recently changed my rear tyers and didnt really notice any uneven wear on the old ones so it should be ok.
  21. #21
Good to hear that but the fact that there is more room on one side than the other in the inner arch means there's something wrong unfortunately.

Could anyone do me a big favour and confirm this is the rear hub's bearing for my Saxò? (2000 1,6 16v VTS,with ABS).Thanks.
