VTS nearly dies.

   Hey guys. Basically, my baby girl is having a few problems.
   
   When I'm driving along, and come to traffic lights or slow moving traffic and I start to break and stop, the car seems to nearly conk out unless I keep the revs up. I also experience this problem when first starting her, engine will start then will go off, unless keeping revs up. Lights sometimes flicker on dash, fan to inside car sometimes go quiet. Any ideas? I'm thinking poss battery? Maybe alternator? Any suggestions would be great, thanks guys.

   Sounds like you need to get the alternator charging rate checked mate.

   Sounds like alternator mate mine done the same was alright during the day because didn't have lights on but night time was a bit of a game lol all fixed now with 80 quid alternator

   I was thinking alternator, should I take it to the garage just to check? Could replace it myself but don't want the hastle if problem persists. Not sure when belt was changed had no service history with it. Sticker on inside of door says 10,000 miles ago but not sure if cam or fan belt. Cheers for reply guys much appreciated!

   I reckon that's an alternator or a battery problem.
   
   When my GTI was in storage, it would start no problem but it wouldn't run because the battery was down on voltage slightly, so it could be the battery isn't taking a charge or is old?
   
   apart from that, then i'd go for the alternator being shit
   
   your battery should be at least 12.4V with ignition off, and a minimum of 13V when running up to a max of 14.8.
   
   
   Maybe it has an under-drive cam pulley because racecar?
