Is it not worth repairing yet?

Daughters 53plate 1.4 Furio is sounding very sick. I renewed the head gasket 2 years ago and think it might have gone again. There are 70k miles on it. It has had 4 new tyres at the start of December. It has had the front end bashed by someone in a car park, it hardly shows except gaps between the panels isn't perfect at the ends of the front valance and the bonnet to grille.
Would you - renew the head gasket again?
    Scrap it?
Try to sell as spares/repair, and if so how much is it likely to be worth? Where would you sell?
    Any advice welcome

I would do the headgasket and have a word with your daughter about not ragging it from cold. 70 kmiles isn't much tbh

about 300 quid-ish I guess, repairs depending on how much tax/mot really.

Thanks Manu for the rapid reply, apologies for not responding earlier, didn't remember to refresh the page

Are you sure the headgasket is the problem?

    Very presumptuous comment there Manu

Well, ragging it from cold will kill your head gasket

Strange to see an engine on it's second gasket before 100k. I'd have the car compression tested to check the gasket. if it's running rough and it's the gasket there will be a drop on one of the cylinders at least.

Electrical faults like lambda sensors usually trigger an engine management light. a culprit for rough idle and hunting/cutting out is the idle control valve. so it might be worth taking off the throttle body and giving it a good clean out with a rag and some petrol/spirits.

Having had another look it's definitely the head gasket. Water coming out of the exhaust big time and bubbles in the radiator header. Sad face.

And Manu was spot on about giving it stick from cold too! Do you know my daughter?

It's a sterotypical assumption made about women drivers

As long as it doesn't start puffing out blue smoke on startup, the engine is still good though

Are you going to replace the head gasket or are you getting rid?
  10. #10
Probably getting rid. For a car daughter has decided she no longer wants it's hard to work up the enthusiasm to rip it apart purely to sell. I'll need to find out how much the kit of parts will be and weigh up the options,

I'd do the headgasket, wax it and throw it up for sale mate. Selling it as parts is time consuming and selling it as is you'd get penuts!

I may be interested when you come to sell if the price and things are right.

Thanks for all the input, I'll post again in a day or two to update on progress.

Decision taken. It's going for scrap next week. I've put the wheels and tyres on ebay for cash and exchange wheels. Hopefully someone will want them before the scrappy comes to collect.
Thanks again to all who have helped

I would have considered taking it off your hands for scrap value
