Important! : gearstick knocking problem

   hi there i have this problem where the gearstick stick seems to knock and really pull in and out when i put my foot down on the accelerator its only happening when im in gear and when i intermittently press the accelerator my car seems to really jump, i have already snapped a drive shaft by putting my foot down in first gear and think that this wobbly problem was the cause of it is there anyone that can give me an answer.

   Sounds like your lower mount is dead.

   so your saying lower engine mount not gearbox mount? and whats best way to check

   lower gearbox mount,
   
   open the bonnet and try to rock the engine fore and aft. shouldn't be much movement at all, if there is loads of movement its shagged.

   theres movement when i rock engine bt not tht much ide say i can move it about an inch forward and back

   Yea thats quite a lot, .
   
   open the bonnet, and the drivers door, and start it while looking in the engine bay, you will see how aggressively it moves then!

   a new OEM mount is only a few quid worth changing anyway, unless you go for an uprated poly one but their arent expensive either.
