Whistling noise from Furio engine and badge removal *HELP PLEASE*

  1. #1
    Alright guys,

I have a Furio, engine bay is tidy, has 85,000 on the clock, no engine mods. However this is a slight whirling/whistling noise coming from it when idling and at lower speeds. Anyone have any ideas on what this could be?!

Also just a quicky, the 'Furio' badges on the rear sides need to go however im not sure the best way to get them off without damaging the paintwork. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks.

Have you any rough idea where the noise is coming from? Try following the pipe work that goes from the front (above the radiator) along to the air box and then to the inlet manifold (at the back of the bay) and see if you can hear anything.

With regard to the badges, a hair dryer will loosen the glue sticking the badge to the shell and you should be able to ease it off, there are various solvents that will dissolve the remaining glue and not damage the paint work (always test the solvent on an inconspicuous area first i.e. in the boot)
Also be aware that paint does fade over time and the paint under that badge hasn't had 10 years+ of UV damage, the most susceptible are black and red I believe.

Thanks for the reply mate, the noise is coming from the Drivers side i believe, will have a look/listen in the morning. Im guessing it shouldnt be anything serious

and okay thats great mate, any ideas of the solvents that won't damage the paint? and its icelandic blue so i shouldn't have a problem hopefully

For de-badging I use hot water from the kettle, lift the badge with an old credit card.

Then more hot water and rub with a microfibre cloth to remove the glue

Whining is probably AUX belt, sometimes the timing belt can whine.

Quite expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Whistling noise could be from the drivebelt or cambelt tensioner.

Okay, I'm guessing the fix would be to tighten them?!

    Thanks for the reply

They auto tension I think so it could be the bearings failing.

When was the cambelt, tensioners and water pump last done?
  9. #9
No, there is no auto tensioning in a 106

don't be silly lol it's all manual.

The cambelt has an auto tensioner I am 99% sure.

    Your also 99% wrong.

For the record, failing tensioner bearings make an aweful noise.

like scratching nails on a black board.

Nah its not 'like scratching nails on a black board' could it be anything to do with the power steering at all?

I doubt its the pas, because on saxo`s the pas is electric not belt driven mate.
