Help, why is my car shuddering????

  1. #1
Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about a problem that I'm have with my furio 1.4 at the moment.

Starting the car is fine and it is normally ok for about 10 minutes driving, but then all of a sudden the ECU light starts flashing and the car sounds like it has transformed into some sort of tractor and it starts shuddering and as though it is struggling to find the power to move the car. If i'm in traffic, the revs go up and down loads but never seem to settle and I need to give it a loads of revs to pull away. If i'm moving the engine loses all accelaration and if i'm doing low revs in any gear the whole car shudders and chuggs along. This sometimes last for the rest of my journey and other times just happens every now and then. It has stalled on me only two or three times. If the revs are high, it still chuggs but doesn't shudder.

I changed the spark plugs initially. Then had it put on a diagnostic and it said there was problems with injector 4. From what i have read online and from i've been told, even though it says injector 4, it doesn't always mean that its actually the injector. On advice i've got, i changed the fuel filter and put some injector cleaner through. Since doing this the problem hasn't been as prolonged, but still happens.

I have a green induction filter and a little breather filter on the car which has been on there for years, so dont know whether that will make an impact on anything.

Really not sure what to do next, was thinking of getting the injectors cleaned and seeing if that resolves it.

Would be very grateful if anyone has any ideas????

    Thanks Sam

Could be the coil pack, Or a lambda sensor, I'v had both go and have similar probelems..

If you have a mate with a saxo, ask if you can swap coil packs to check, since its about 2 minute to whip off, then back on!

Might be worth taking the injector out and cleaning it, since its free to do..

If that all fails, id go lamda sensor.. When mine went in my VTR, it was cutting out pulling up to junctions and stuff, and spluttering a lot

Thanks very much, I'll see if I can think of any one with a saxo to try the coil pack.

I had my lamda sensor changed about 2 years ago, would they stop working after that amount of time.

    Very grateful for your help

It can do, if you have had a knock on the exhaust or anything it could easily break it.. Or you might have just got an iffy one when it was new.

Like i say, do the things that are free before trying that, thats what i did, tried coil packs and stuff, before i paid for a lambda, but it turned out to be the lambda causing the problem

As the EML light is on get the car plugged into a diagnostics machine, lots of garages will do it free of charge. That way with a fault code you`ll know what needs replacing.

If the code is saying the injector, why not do something with that? Just in case..

    Also, check the injector loom.
