Red Temp just came on

   hi there
   
   I was driving along to get petrol .. about 5mins into my trip the temp light came on and the needle started slowly raising up ... the fan kicked in.
   I got to some traffic lights changed down the gears to 1st while the clutch was dipped the light went off and the fan turned off then the needle slowly went down back to the normal temperture.
   
   Anyone have any idea on this ? Its not like its boiling hot outside

   once you take the cap off you can see the coolent ...
   
   Ive always had a problem with the temp on my car, If im in a que the temperture slowly raises up no matter what the weather .. but driving around its fine.

   sounds like a poor radiator or waterpump

   Im probably wrong here, but ive always thought the red light above the coolant temp gauge is something to do with oil temp. I say this cos 1) youve got a gauge for the coolant so you can see if its overheating and 2) ive only ever seen it come on once when i used engine oil flush which made my oil like boiling water.
