waxstat

Hi all, I've introduced myself in the newbies section and taken a look around. The car I bought seems quite good but there is one thing I need to sort for the cold winter were now having. I have called my local Citroen dealer trying to get a new waxstat as I believe mine is u/s but he doesn't know what I'm talking about. Is there another name for it, and does anyone know where I'll get one please?

do you not mean a thermostat, i think waxstat is an after market brand that make all parts such as carbs and thormostats

Waxstat hasn't been used for years Most done use wax any more. I not heard it since i started my apprenticeship.

Why do you want to change it?
What's up with the old one?
Have you tested to see if it opens in boiling water?

Just ask for a thermostat for your car and they will give you the temperature options they have for your application.

the waxstat is what revs the car up to about 1100rpm on a cold day these are found on engines with carbs i think maybe the idle control valve does that job now days

Wax stat's are anything with a wax canister connected to a push rod Can be used for any sort of temperature related valve. Use to be a trade name but like I said they have not been used for years.

When I've searched the net its called a waxstat, but that maybe a slang term for it. The part in question is part of the cooling system. It is situated to the right hand side of the rocker cover in the engine casing. It has a sheath with a steel wire that connects to the Lucas diesel pump, when the engine is cold the cable which is attached to a lever which holds the throttle open a bit and changes the timing giving the engine a cold start and when the engine warms up the cable moves and changes the timing and drops the revs. Anyone know where I'll get one?
