Checked the alternator connections? I too still have the same problem, i just removed the whole p/s system so it could pass mot

edit: have you also checked the plug/connector with a multimeter?

Get a tester on the wires for the relay and pump plug see If power is getting to it when the engine is running if not look at the wire from the relay to the Ignition barrel as that can play up some times

You can still drive without the pas. My bet is the alternator isnt making enough juice to run it. Are you sure you've cured all the faults with the electricity supply? I'd be inclined to run a feed direct to it via a relay so it comes on with the ignition

maybe a stupid question but there is fluid in it isnt there, plus there might be problem with steering rack

just re read theres no power to pump i agree probaly alternator

Stressing me out rotten I'm not off till Saturday so ill be spending the day pulling my hair out some more

So ill double check the pump is got a love feed to it. If it has what's my next step?

Isayer yh dude I checked with a probe last time there was power
  9. #9
used pumps from scrapyards? there's part of your problem...
  10. #10
Nope from users from here reliable used pumps
  11. #11
Cant see used pumps being the problem.

Have the alternator tested to make sure its generating enough current. These tests are usually free.

i have a PAS problem, and im yet to replace my pump - hoping its a faulty circuit tbh.

Let me know how you fix it.

also i drive with no PAS and its horrible.

Check your alternator. For a start make sure its supplying a constant steady 14.4v. Then check while under full load - head lights on, main beam on, radio on, rear demister on, heater blower on max. If drops below 13v for any length of time, id personally be thinking the alternator needs changing.

will give you a clue if the alternator has gone but don't take the voltages as gospel, guideline only.

I'd personally would of just taken a 12v supply straight to the pumps to test if there working well, then you know if its a pump problem or wiring problem, tbh saxo pas pumps go so often it wouldn't surprise me that you had 3 or more faulty pumps.

Father in law is ganna take a look at it come Saturday killing me considering getting car I finance if this isn't sorted soon

Strange how the pumps work when they are first fitted if I leave the car for a few hours come back it's like it forgot it had a pump connected
  15. #15
why not run a switched feed to it? its not worth scrapping the car just for lack of PAS
  16. #16
Run a wire form the replay to the ignition switch
  17. #17
I have no idea about electrics wouldn't know how to run a wire
  18. #18
Ya best of getting a tester on the wires for the relay on the pump if there is no power getting to the relay then look at the ignition barrel as there common to go wrong easy way to check is with the engine running see if you have ya heater fan working etc as that is on the same feed for the pas pump
  19. #19
Yh already looked into the ignition barrle wire trick cut the browns join em together didn't do any thing my blowers still blow
  20. #20
Sounds like a under bonnet problem follow the wire for the pas to the fuse box and check all that should be two wired to fuse box and one wire to a single plug the single plug is the feed from the ignition and the two wires are the power from the fuse box get a tester on then 3 wires if there is power to them then look at the earth point down by the pump
  21. #21
    From the pas

One cable connects splits into three cables a green connection, a earth and one cable that goes to the fuse box?

Sorted all the pumps I have baught of here have been faulty we ran wires direct from battery to pump none of them worked intill I took one apart and smashed the hell out of it

Nicked my confidence with buying stuff off members now

I'm ganna have to spend 195 on a brand new pump
  23. #23
195 for a new pump where u get that price from ?
  24. #24
    Local motor factors through trade
  25. #25
I had the same problems where the wires connect / plug this was slightly corroded inside chopped of the plug and fitted a new one , taped it all up so no damp can get back in , bingo problem solved car has been good for 2 years now

I got a pump and alternator from scrappy worked out 80quid for the pair and running fine for my gold 1.1 lol
