Brake Light Issue

   So after some strange guy stopped me to tell me i had a brake light out. I tried fixing it by buying a new bulb (DUH).
   
   However, it seems as though rather than the brake light not working, the bulb is always on full brightness when i have my lights on and therefore does not get brighter when i hit the brakes. It is a lot brighter than the passenger side when my lights are on
   
   What could this be? do i need a new bulb holder, earths, corrosion?

   Wrong bulb.

   Youve probably put the 380 bulb in the wrong way (21w pin on the 5w tail light).
   
   Swap the bulb around, if that doesnt work go down the route of what youve already said...
