handbrake cable on caliper

im having to change my NSR caliper, but im having trouble with the handbrake cable ie. disconnecting it from the caliper at the bottom, I have got i off the arm on the caliper but how do you remove the cable from the caliper itself.

    Any help would be appriciated

    it just pulls out.

theres an insert which holes the cable which has splines thus it might need tapping out. Can be a pain if its in tight

Use a punch and some elbow

The whole "shoulder" you can see to the left of your arrow is the insert, belt it out from left to right with a suitable punch

OK I will try again in morning, it must be well fused together.

Just changed mine, was like someone had welded it in it was that tight. Lump hammer and agression is a must

What's the best way not to damage the handbrake cable though.

Buy a new one if its stuck in there its probably nearing time to change them only about £18 on euro carparts. And before you start hitting them soak with wd40 helped with one of mine but the other put up more of a fight

I have given it a good soaking of wd40 so hopefully by the morning it would have penetrated.

Your were right just needed a bladdy good smacking with a lump hammer, the only problem now is the brake line but has been rounded out by the previous owner.

chop the line near the nut, get a socket over it?
