Hi all, I have had to make 2 short journeys today, both of less than 2 miles, and on both occasions the car, a 1.1 saxo started normally then after about a mile, started to missfire, this got worse until the engine totally died. Whilst the car was missfiring, the engine mamagement light flashed on and off. After letting the car cool, the engine started fine again, and again during warm up, it started to missfire, getting worse until it died. I eventually finished my journey on both occasions, having the same problem on the return journey. Any ideas before I have to start throwing money away?
missfiring then stalls during warm up

-
#10going to do tomorrow hopefully, new coil pack aint cured it!
-
#11did you get your car sorted mines doing the same thing near enough have you got a cure
-
#12Not cured I'm afraid, new plugs fitted too, got my new fault code reader today.....so I have 2 faults associated with this;
1, (P0170) Fuel trim malfunction (Bank 1)
2, (P0300) Random/multiple misfire detected
Could this be an injector gone down? Its not the coil pack 'cos I had another pack on it and it did same thing. Has anybody got any ideas? anything would be appreciated, well..........nearly anything lol. -
#13I know you have tried the coilpack but have you tried taking the leads off and warming them up on a radiator to make sure there isn't any moisture, my brothers 1.0 had this same issue so I took them off left them on radiator overnight, fit them the next morning sprayed damp start onto them and it's fine now.
I knew it was an ignition fault since on startup there was a strong smell of petrol coming from the exhaust and it was banging in the inlet.1 user thanked this post: -

#15Erm, wat am i thinking, there are no HT leads on it

#17Try disconnecting the coolant temperature sensor and starting it see if it makes any difference when running
-
#18Code po300 relates to the coil pack,to the op did you fit a used coilpack or a new one mate?
-
#19Hi, Stevo I fitted a new 1 mate, good and bad news guys......good news is I have found the problem.......bad news is its a broken wire somewhere lol, but its the wires to the coil pack, its just a matter of finding the break!
-
#20Thats why it carried on doing it when I fitted the new 1, but strange how it only did it when warming up and not when stone cold. :/
-
#21Trace the wires coming from the crank sensor.1 user thanked this post:

#22Could also be a bad earth from coilpack, iirc theres an earth from coilpack to head somewhere, not hard to find, may just be that the end what screws to head has started fraying and connection gets broken after driving for a while.1 user thanked this post:

#23Will look tomorrow, been doing brake bleeding today but nipples rounded off so cant tighten them now, new ones ordered! Fetching them tomorrow morning to sort then rebleed, then back on this broken wire issue-joy lol, but thanks for the tips guys.........I'm on it!!
-
#24Tried cleaning the Crank sensor, no joy, worth a try, and found a black wire doing nothing coming from yellow lead that plugs into coil pack, I earthed that, did nothing. I need somebody with a similar car to try swapping parts but dont know anyone with a saxo.
