Wheel spinning a lot and play...

  1. #1
I've mentioned before that my car spins the passenger wheel a lot and got the usual responses about shorter driveshafts and so on...

Anyway this is still an issue and has finished a tyre, and while adjusting my clutch cable earlier, I noticed there's a lot of play in that shaft that goes down into the box and holds the thrust bearing..

Is this likely a related problem?
Wanted the lot to last till late summer because I was considering a 16v conversion anyway...

    Just curious really
    Cheers

That shaft isnt really mounted in the box
You can pull them out the bottom hole when theyre off an engine that play is nothing to worry about

As for spinning up to the extent youve killed a tyre
A saxo with an open diff will spin its left wheel
Get an lsd or stop being a chav
If its doing that youve exceed the grip of the tyre
Better tyres will help but throttle controll will do you more good and is free....

pretty much what he said ^

The shaft is nothing to worry about then

    The spinning is virtually uncontrollable.
I don't have top spec tyres but they are T1Rs, I don't buy mega cheap tyres anyway, even being gentle it seems to spin a lot, though perhaps this was partially to do with the tyre, I'm running a spare now with a brand new Firestone on it and it does seem better, perhaps ill just monitor it for now

Also, when stationary and the engine is running, my clutch makes a noise, it's not the thrust bearing noise they usually have, it's a squeaking, and as soon as I lift the pedal it stops.
It's the same no matter where I adjust the clutch cable to.

There's a spring on the pedal that is no longer available at Citroen, are there any other solutions to this? It's more irritating than anything :/

    Noise will be the bearing
    Some grumble some sqeal

    Are you running 100000bhp??
I ran 186hp open diff gti box for about a month on t1r tyres i wasnt spinning up everywere
Dont use full throttle simple as that

never called you a chav, never even seen it.

Nah not you others it was a random comment by me haha
Was an epic way to end a driveshaft

Funnily enough on t1rs i did that
So that proves you have to be a cunt to spin them up

i didnt even know of you then and thought you were just another tit on the back of a recovery truck haha

    See what i mean lol
I was so fucking angry that night

I can't see it being over standard 98brake power... It's done almost 100k now and has a 4 branch and full magnex system, nothing else done.

Perhaps it was just since the tyre was low and I'm just being paranoid.

I never drive full throttle there's never a need, I'm usually on an Eco drive to save money, just seemed odd that on absolutely several occasions it'd spin that wheel when pulling out of junctions Etc

Maybe I'm just paranoid that there's something wrong with it now its just nearing that 100k milestone...

As for the noise, didn't sound like a bearing noise id heard before, I know they usually chatter and when pushing the pedal down it stops, but pulling the pedal up for it to stop seemed a new one to me, if that's all it is I shan't worry, I'm sure it'll need a clutch at some point in my ownership anyway

    Thanks

If your ademant its not driving style look at tracking and suspension bushes

If its nothing obvious then its tyre pressures or a lead foot

The only other thing is a sticking right front caliper
But youd still have to rev it to spin up.....

I did replace track rod ends and have the tracking done just last week, and have powerflex front wishbone bushes ready to fit and standard rear ones to fit also, hopefully this weekend.

I wouldn't have seen any difference as the tyre was down to the wear marks already and gone on one edge, so ill get them all done and just keep an eye on it..

I'm planning to service all the brakes a little when I've got a couple of hours also, but I do agree that normally it'd need revs to spin. It never span on the spot, usually when pulling out of junctions and once I'd started moving a little, but lead foot is one thing it definitely isn't - I don't think the cars dropped below 38mpg since I've owned it, averages 42 and has achieved 48 so I'm proper Eco minded and poor at the moment!

My VTR spins it's left wheel quite easily, in wet I can just pull away and instantly have to pull into 2nd
  17. #17
Alright mate long time no speak! Haha yeah mines a load less spin happy with a spare wheel on that side so must be down to a dodgy tyre I guess :/
  18. #18
top of my head guess !!!
car is too low at rear so lifting weight off front ,or corner weights are all wrong(torsion bars not equal )making one corner at front very light
rear should be at least 15mm higher than front when measured at jacking points and you should heve equal ride heights across the car -within 3mm --so a pair of heights at rear and apair at front

Yeah mate been a while! Haven't seen you driving about much. I had 205 speedlines on and they were much better than my 14" VT wheels, even though the 205 speedlines were budgets and the VTR tyres were continentals lol

I see you on occasion, I'm in the VTR remember.. Obviously haha

I'm on VTS rims with t1rs ATM

T1R's are shit unless you give them a good roasting (which on an eco drive you're not doing). I've got some and they stay on the back end.

My Marangoni's are 10 times better in the dry and the wet from cold.

I've got uniroyals on the front now for the snow and slush

is this just when pulling out of junctions? It's easier to wheelspin when turning and accelerating at the same time

What colour is your Saxo? I'm picking mine up sometime next week, it's been away getting some goodies

Mostly junctions but just seems oddly easy, the back is lower than the front though which I'm hoping to sort if I can get another axle..

Ah I see its an 03 wicked red mate l, sounding good!

thats your problem--no weight on front
and front end lifts moving weight to rear on taking off

Hopefully my new axle is a tad higher then
