I had a check at my standard exhaust and found the back box rusted and about to hole and the silencer in the middle of the car has a hole so I'm looking to get a stainless steel cat back system. I've looked at Piper and Magnex as I want a good system, but the best price I have got for a system is for a custom made one from RMS in Prestwick. My first question is has anyone ever had an exhaust from RMS and if so, how is it? And second question is, does anyone know if it is posible with a custom exhaust to have it loud at lower speeds e.g. 30mph around town and quieter (like a standard exhaust) on fast journey's e.g. motorways at 50mph and above? Hope someone can give me some advice! Thanks.

#2loudness will also depend on the revs
piper and magnex are a good choice -
#3i would imagine that most exhasut will do this as round town u tend to give it some beans creationg the induction noise and growl kinda noise
Whereas on the motorway u kinda ride the accelarator therefor no induction noise.
Hope that helped. !! -
#4oh yeah. And remus exhausts are good pretty quiet on the motorway
But a nice low pitched noise when u cane it lol -
#5check out powerflow for a custom stainless. Find out what your local one is like first tho, the standard tends to vary. i have 2 localy, one is shocking, the other is sh*t hot

#6My local one seems to be quite good but I'll check out others. Just want to make sure I get the right system as I had a Sportex exhaust on my old Punto and it was loud no matter what speed I was doing and it gets annoying on long journeys. My brother has a Magnex on his vtr but it seems too quiet... I'll keep looking!

#7What do you think of a single dtm tailpipe or a saxo? There is a saxo on powerflow's website with a single dtm pipe at either side which looks quite good but would it look stupid only having one on the left?

#8Surely it would depend on the size of the bit of pipe going from the cat. i've got cat back and its loud on long journeys - its ok when you go down hill though. lol mine is a custom stainless steel system http://www.viperracingsystems.co.ukQuote:Originally Posted by Saxo_SteveI had a check at my standard exhaust and found the back box rusted and about to hole and the silencer in the middle of the car has a hole so I'm looking to get a stainless steel cat back system. #9On a custom build you pretty much tell them what you want and they build it to what you have said - Thats the advantage of a custom exhaust, its custom to your wants and needs.
If you decide to go with a custom job don't be tempted to go too big with the pipe work cos on a non-turbo small engine the loss in back presure could do more harm than good, a good way to keep good back presure is to use a centre box this will also bring the volume down a bit to.
If your on a budget and looking for a less noisey exhaust try buyin a Off the shelf centre section - Magnex, Janspeed, and so on - which has a centre box but not as restrictive as a standard exhaust then just get a custom back box made.
If this helps why not boost my rep:thumbup: -
#10Ok, so I've decided to buy a Magnex. Where's the cheapest place to get it? The cheapest I've found so far is Larkspeed who will do it for 299.99 + £10 postage. Does anyone know why the vtr exhaust is more expensive than the vts? I spoke to a guy at Magnex and he said it's because the vtr exhaust is longer but I thought they would have been about the same?
