1.1 Oil Leak :(

Hi my 1.1 saxo has a little leak

it's on the front left side i done a search and it seems it might be the head gasket if anyone can confirm it would be great

oh my saxo has nearly 140,000 miles

Looks like it could be H/G, check under oil cap for a mayo colored substance and also whether your loosing oil, if this is the case it will be the head gasket.

Would also be worth mentioning a compression test at a local garage could also give an indication of whether its gone aswell.

Also forgot to mention, they can do a CO2 coolant test to check for any gasses escaping into cooling system, that could further help with diagnosing it.

8V`S are known to seep oil from the corner above the alternator.De-grease the engine run it till its warm & you`ll get a better idea of where its coming from.Are you using much oil?

Its the head gasket, they usually break down around the oil way on the front left of the head and then leak. Generally will get worse over time but I had a 1.1 with a leak here and drove it around for ages, keeping an eye on the oil level which didnt change much. I'd now change it for peace of mind but obviously that depends on your skills and what you feel comfortable doing (or indeed paying a garage). Doesnt mean there will be a leak of coolant into the cylinders or out of the engine itself though

Thanks for the reply's, i am going to see a mechanic at the weekend and hopefully get it fixed soon because the parents aren't too happy with oil all over the driveway lol
