Could this be the gearbox?

   got a rumbling noise coming from the front end somewhere can't tell if its left or right seems kind of centred.. sounds like a tumble dryer with a pair of trainers going around in it is the best I can describe it and gets faster with speed. It does it in gear or out of gear clutch in or clutch out it still makes the noise and its constant when moving also seems noisier when cornering.
   
   I have ruled out wheel bearings and driveshafts and i'm now wondering if this could be the diff in the box?

   Out of interest how have you ruled the bearing and driveshafts out? My first thought was driveshaft.

   they've been replaced as they were the first things I thought of and the car being quite high mileage (114K) now they needed doing sooner or later anyway.
