standard cams are in, but correctly? - Solved which one is inlet and exhaust

A while ago, I posted about having a set of standard cams to go in my vts to replace my catcam 708's.

I've installed them but I'm really unsure if its right, as I did NOT know what was inlet or exhaust cams when they were supplied, however someone said that they only turn if its the right ones for each side? Is this correct?

Also, with them now in place when I crank them over by hand, when every time a valve closes, it turns 90 degrees by itself when the loebs come off the rockers, would this assume its correct?

Lastly, when it comes back round to where the pullys lock, it dosent meet up on the timing marks where you lock the head, is this normal? Its a bit off to one side by an inch or so.

Thanks, its just before I seal everything up properly as I'm storing head away as its had previous headwork, come in handy one day.

buy the sounds of that its not timed up correctly, if they lined up before the cams was swapped and they dont now then there is something wrong , any pics

Its not on the engine, heads off, its more of, before I clamp the camshaft carriers down, I lock the verniers, then tighten bolts on the cam carriers(ladders), if I take out my locking pin, and crank the camshafts round individualy, they don't come back round dead on where they can lock

Not sure if that's how its ment to be?

You should be able to use the cam keyway position to identify them. Details of the keyway position are in the haynes manual iirc.

Will have a look when I get home ross, although the numbers and marks on both camshafts were the same, even the little dot at the second last loeb were same place, just different numbers on the cams to try identify them, first numbers on both cams were 10 followed by, what I've used as inlet had 10 (iirc) on it, and exhaust had 16

Unsure if that means anything to anyone, but maby someone knows, as its baffled me, but will have a look at my haynes when I'm back home for the keyways

Ok guys, if anyone else has this problem, problem solved.

The answer is.. to find out what one is which, the exhaust camshaft must be at 8 Oclock on the spline when in position, the inlet one will be at 7 oclock.

    SORTED. also thanks ross
