Gti into vtr, problems. HELP !

im really wishing id never bothered to take the time to start the wheels in motion on this project as its given me nothing but ballache.

Iv got a 1998 saxo vtr (single plug ecu) and iv ordered a 99 106 gti engine (single plug ecu).

Iv been told by the seller that im getting everything needed..

    gti 106 engine
    ecu
    chip from key
    transponder
    engine loom
    fan
    radiator
    manifold
    downpipe
    mounts.

Now he told me that this would be an easy conversion, and that it would be as simple as 1 plug vtr to 1 plug vts. But i told him that i thought the gti had different wiring and was no where near as simple.

So the citroen mechanic that was planning on fitting the conversion, has now told me, that the conversion will also need the interior fuse box, fusebox in engine bay and also the dash loom, gti fuel pump. Without which he will not touch it?

Is this true, or can it be done, and it will just involve some major wiring headaches?

help, ive bought and paid for the engine etc in full and its being delivered?

I bought it from VRS, and it says on my receipt 'VTS conversion kit complete' so surely id be entitled to a refund if i havent received all needed parts for the conversion?

i know for certain that you dont need fuse boxes and shit bit you will need to do some re-wiring where the gti loom plugs into the main vtr loom just infront of the battery. but thats about all I MYSELF know!

i know that u need a gti wiring loom not a saxo one! and u need the fuel lines of gti etc

if you get a vts loom it will plug straight in to your vtr.
you also dont need a fuel return, just block it off, tbh most cit mechanics only know how to do services and shit, not saying he does but thats my opinion.
vrs (in gateshead?) should have sent you the right stuff as they are generally good to deal with.

the mechanic was pretty sure that i couldnt just plug a single plug vts loom into the gti engine, as some sensors etc are different. and its set up different?

I have no idea, and im just flatout confused, as i keep being told different things.

I know that the 1plug vts loom will fit into my 1 plug vtr loom and be fine, but im not sure if it will plug into and run the gti engine fine, as i think the gti has different perameters and settings? again iv no idea.

I was told the list i have above is what id need, now i have ordered that, and my mechanic is telling me no, i need other things (i know about the fuel pickup) but i wasnt expecting the dash loom, and both fuseboxes?

no mate, 2 weeks ago i put a gti engine in my mates single plug vtr using a single plug vts loom.
the block is the same on gti/vts, its the wiring that is slightly different.
thats what i mean about dealer mechanics are only any good for an oil + filter change. if the diagnostics cant fix it their fucked!!!!

right, so your pretty confident that if i get hold of a mk1 single plug vts engine loom, itd be prety much a straight swap? Just the engine loom?

did u have to doctor any wiring/sensors etc using the vts loom on the gti engine and mating it to the vtr? or weas it 'plug and play' ?

what about the fuel pump, lines etc?

    thanks

if you aint got a fuel return just block it off then its just a vts throttle cable you'll need then its plug and play mate!

can i jump into your thread as im about to do this also but with a mk2 saxo 1.4 furio are these 1 or 3 plug ecu and would it matter if they were different?
  11. #11
depends on the year of your car, open the bonnet and look at the ecu do you have 1 plug or 3 coming out of it! Also if its a mk1 1.4 etc then you might have to change the whole car loom as i think it was only the 1.6s that shared looms.

yeah its comming from a pug106 quicksilver so its already been into a 1.4 i dunno wot a 1 or 3 plug would look like lol its a V plate i am getting loom with it... i just want to know all the info before i ring the bloke about it so i sound less of a muppet

1 plug looks like it has 1 plug on it
3 plug has 3 plugs on it.
    couldnt be simpler.

we had to change the map sensor as it had 2 pins and the vts loom had 3 pins, but it looked they had stuck a vtr map sensor on so you may not need to worry about that.

hi sorry to bring this back up in just bought a vts engine and ecu and wiring single plug type. to fit it into my vtr also with a single plug but the vts wiring has been cut for some stupid reason can i use my vtr wiring ?? also do i have to have my ecu unlocked?? cheers

yes you'll need an unloced ecu.
unless you have keys and immobiliser from donor car.
