Cutting out when revs drop too low.. HELP

  1. #1
Hi, came across the problem the other day whilst driving home. Luckily i was coming close to the town where i live. When all of a sudden it felt as if i was in too higher gear for the speed i was going if that makes sense? For example, if your in a 30 and your in 4th! it felt like that. So i looked down and saw i was in 3rd, i changed down to 2nd but she just didnt want it. The revs gradually died, she cut out and rolled to a stop. Now ive been told it could be a fuel filter problem? Because of money problems ive only been topping her up a tenner here and there when she needs it. I tried restarting it and it didnt want to start, i gave it 5 minutes and it started and i limped home, it felt like if it was to drop below 1000 revs it would cut out again. Anyone got any ideas or had this problem?

Sorry for the poor explanation, hope it made some sense haha. Cheers.

I've had a car do the exact same and it did turn out to be a fuel problem. I had to have the fuel pump replaced in the end.
