how do you strip a axel down ? ( replacing bearings)

Okay guys time has took its toll on my rear axel and is showing signs of play. Only 8 months ago it was sand blasted and everything copper slipped when it was lowered so the arb should come out easily.

But how do I remove the arms so I can replace the bearing before it elongates itself. Also do I have to buy the proper bearings or can I go to a local store who sell only bearings with the numbers off the side and get them ?

IIRC once the torsion bars a free the arms should just hit off the axle, the bearings are like pins inside a race with slits in, they are tiney mate. Just get some from the dealer i dont think they are very expensive

i would buy one not to expensive and then refurb your old one and sell it to help pay for the one you bought then next time you need to sort it out you know what you need to do

I do have a axel which I changed before I put this one in, might sandblast it and do the same but rebuild it, depends how far gone it is though and rebuild this and sell one

Just tap the trailing arms off. And put new bearings off.

go local for bearings...you'll save a fortune over OEM

The fact it's showing signs of play indicates the pins are probably already worn. You can replace the bearings but they won't last long if the pins are worn.

To replace the pins you need a bloody strong press.

Yeah thats what I'm worried about, if the pins were worn could you build them up with weld (hard facing) then put them in a lathe and turn them down ?
