Brakes Upgrade...

  1. #1
Not so long ago I skidded in an accident into another car, and it scared me how easily my brakes locked up and how I would of skidded for miles if I hadn't hit the other car. Now I would blame my tyres but they are pretty decent tyres, Continentals...

Basically I was after some suggestions of a complete brake upgrade, I have a Furio so front discs, rear drums, with VTR alloys, 14"...

    Cheers...

are the vtr/vts discs any bigger mate?

unsure of what other brakes would fit under the 14s

I have 266mm disks, you need different calipers to use larger disks. But to be honest, no matter how big your brakes are, they will stick lock up without ABS.

    Curses, ok appreciate the help...

How much am I looking at some for some decent brakes?

Could upgrading the rear drums to the VTR discs help at all? Although I've heard that the rears are mainly for the handbrake?

Update, just read a few ad's on autotrader and apparantly Furio's have ABS?

rear brakes only do a small amount of the braking

as for front brakes the biggest you'll get under 14's are 266mm 206 gti brakes you can pick these up for around the 200 quid mark

Nope only VTS's have ABS (maybe an option on vtr's)

bigger front brakes would make you skid more easily.
the only way to avoid that is learn how to brake better or fit abs.

as above braking is more to do with the driver rather than brake setup, yes better brakes upgrades do a better job, but it still comes down to the person pressing the brakes, thats why newer cars are coming with more and more braking add ons, abs, edc and all the rest of them, so the computer does the hard work for you

whats the average price for a 206 gti setup, i found one for £1200 new. fuck that!

lol, they dont even cost that much from the dealer mate.
i got my gti 180 brakes for £130 with discs and pads.
depends where you get them and if the seller has caught onto the fact people use them on other cars also how much you willing to pay.
personaly for a 2nd hand set i wouldnt pay over £150.
