Important! : Cold starting problem.

    Hi all.

On cold mornings my saxo cuts out if I don`t keep my foot on the gas, then the revs shoot up to 2k with a stench of petrol.I`ve changed the following sensors/parts coil pack crank sensor map sensor coolant temp sensor lambda sensor new plugs. The garage has run fuel system cleaner through all too no avail.Once the car is warm it runs perfect & returns good mpg.

    Cheers.

Where does the stench of petrol come from can you locate it?

Id be looking at your injectors checking they are seated and are not loose or have any leaks.

Have a go at cleaning the throttle body where the butterfly meets also. if there isn't a good seal the butterfly cannot respond quick enough and thus it stalls.

All I know mate & thanks for replying is the petrol smell is coming through the vents,i`ve not had chance to have a look in the engine bay.As my saxo is an early one it has individual leads going to the plugs & i`m wondering if one of the leads has broken down?I`ve got another set of leads in the shed which I might try.

    Dear Stevo.
Firstly so sorry to hear about your problem Stevo
Looks to me that you have renewed just about everything ! The only thing that you haven,t renewed is the idle air valve Stevo.
What cc is your Saxo, and is an 8 or a 16v ?

    Its a 8v 1.6vtr engine automatic.

    Dear Stevo.
One of the things I did to Nats Saxo was to remove all the electrical " block " connectors and spray clean them " all " with carb cleaner and then chain-lube, including all the engine bay earths etc.
One thing you might try is spraying carb cleaner on the inlet manifold o-rings area, to see if inlet manifold is leaking ( this needs to done with the engine running at idle, any leak should make the tick-over to raise, when spayed.
Has the throttle " potentiometer " been " moved " at all Stevo ?

Thanks for the reply mate, the potentiometer hasn`t been touched at all.The weird thing is the fault only happens on really cold mornings the rest of the time it starts 1st time.
