Water Temp Gauge Faulty?

  1. #1
    Hi,

My VTS has started to play up a bit on Friday on my way home it started to get quite hot about 3/4 not in the red though. The next morning i checked it and seems i had a slight leak so topped the water up and took it for a drive the temp gauge would not go below half even from cold so did some research on here and bled the system up.

I did this and the temp gauge did go down to the bottom then it took about 15 - 20 minutes to get to 1/2 i kept checking the top and lower hose to check if the thermostat was working and it was working fine opened up and all got nice and warm. Took it for a drive and it didn’t get above half way as it was before.

However after that i left it till the next morning went out to go out in it and turned the ignition on and it temp gauge went to half again without me turning the engine on while driving the gauge would go to about 3/4 and stay then but when stationary it would rise but never in to the red. I did try and bleed the system again not no air in it at all and still doing the same what could be wrong?

    Thanks

Temp gauge sensor on the thermostat housing maybe faulty.

Can someone confirm for me i have a 2000 Mk2 VTS single plug ecu there are two sensors on the thermostat housing but only one plugged in. Is one the water temp sensor for the gauge and the other meant to be one for the ecu\fan?

I have the fan sensor on the radiator as well which is plugged in so i dont think i need both sensors on the housing plugged in as the radiator one is acting as the second am i correct?

2 sensors on the thermostat housing 1 will be for the gauge(blue I think)green 1 is for the ecu.

Give them your car reg then you`ll get the correct sensor.

Its a common problem & for the sake of around £15.00 i`d replace it.
