How easy to swap standard seats?

  1. #1
My misses car -99 T plate seats have deteriorated over the years and I'd like to change them rather than covering them with seat covers.
Need to know what the degree of difficulty is in just swapping them over to a better set of standard seats all round

Anything to look out for etc..

    Cheers

It's one of the easiest things to do. You will need a torx, i forget which size. Each front seat has 4 torx bolts. Remove those and they will come out. There is likely to be a wire connected under the seat as well for the seatbelt pretensioner so that will need to be unplugged before you remove the seat.

Not even half a day if you don't have any problems.

You won't have an airbag connector on yours but there will be a brown pretensioner wire. It unclips under the seat.

The rear seats are just as easy. There are some bolts that hold the back rest t the side of the car. Undo those and you're all done. The seat pads will just lift off.

was gonna say takes me about 10 min to remove front and rear seats, it is 12 bolts and 2 connectors in total to remove all the seats, good time to give the inside a good clean

Sorry to drag this up again but just had a thought...would vtr/s seats fit directly into our 1999 standard?

    Cheers again

As far as I know they will. I had vts seats in my diesel - I'm fairly sure the seats are interchangeable between all models and phases.

    Thanks for the fast reply

    yes all seats are interchangable.

should be noted though, that if you have a non-split rear bench (one peice) you will need 2 10mm bolts, and 2 brackets and 10mm nuts if fitting a split bench

the only exception is very early (2 stud front suspension mount early) 106's, where it is just the rears that dont fit, although they can be made to fit using the innards of the standard seat.

If you remove the seats, does the airbag light come on? I want to swap mine out because they are quite bad but I don't want that light to come on and me fail MOT.

They shouldn't as you will be refitting seats and plugging the pretensioner back in
