Smoothing fog lights out

  1. #1
I'm thinking about smoothing my foglights out. Has anybody done this before? If so How did you do it?
  2. #2
If you get it done at a bodyshop they will just stick a metal plate in it foglight whole and then smooth it and spray over it.
  3. #3
fibre glass will do the job. dont need metal on a plastic bumper.

i think it would be quite easy. just remove the lights, fibre glass over the hole and finish with filler and spray.
  4. #4
Probs just me but why would you not want the front fogs? in my opinion they give most cars more character.
  5. #5
as above, use fibre glass matting to cover the whole, couple of layers just shy of the edge then fill and smooth
  6. #6
They're a bit useless i think. If you wanna change the look, go for it. I know most couldn't be bothered.
  7. #7
I wanna go for more of a smooth euro look.
  8. #8
Pm Jayward, he has done his.

Fog lights are pretty useless if you ask me and you rarely (if ever) use them.

    Do it mate.

remember fibre glass dont stick to plastic tho
  10. #10
glue a plastic piece in side the hole or get 1 plastic welded in then use a thin layer of filler and paint?
  11. #11
Just a little euro shop for you!

  12. #12
    That looks really good actually.

for fibre glass to bond to plastic, theres a proper bonding agent you are suposed to apply first, can't remember the name of it, but it will come back to me

If you smooth the side reapeaters it will fail the MOT, unless you have mirror indicators?
  20. #20
spencer has turned his fog lights into cold air feeds, if i did it i would direct them towards my brakes to stop brake fade, pic are here:

lol not to worry mate, I had same probs when doing dash builds, right pain, then a mate put me onto the stuff, its very similar to the stuff you put onto windows for the bond to stick to

I've smoothed re-peaters out, but got the indicator mirrows, also smoothed all the bump strips out

Buying off the guy at the garage? No seriously do tell
  25. #25
All the MOT say's is that you have to have repeaters not permanantely fixed ones. So if you leave the wiring there you can drag it round and situate the repeater on the wing using magnets or blue tac or what ever you want. I plan on keeping the standard mirrors

Fair play. And the stndard mirrors with caps are better than any aftermarket mirrors IMO

Yup totally agree thats why I want to keep them. Am considering shortening them but its a lot of work. Might buy a cheap one from the scrappies and see how it turns out. I can imagine it'll be really hard to get right so i'll probably not bother

bit of an idea for you, get another set of mirror caps, fit some leds into them, fit connection to the back of them, then mot time fit them ones then re fit standard ones after only an idea like
