Turbo and Insurance?

Well, I've decided next i want boost! was thinking something RWD like the likes of a Silvia etc but i know it will get me in trouble now a turbo Saxo would be so much fun! 'Oh only a saxo...' comments would be put right pretty quickly!

Id love to get myself an engine and build it over time, would be a great learning curve!

Now obviously i wouldnt do a build like this without declaring or your asking for trouble, i know there is a few turbo bods on here whats your insurance like with Turbo conversion declared?

My insurance is pretty reasonable now, I'm 19, Fully Comp, Lowering declared, just under 1000 a year fully comp, did some quotes on silly cars e.g BMW 330, Focus RS, Civic Type R and so on, and they all came out at £1300 fully comp, a 180sx Silvia came out £945 fully comp! RWD.. Boost... Skid car? Oh insurance you make perfect sense! I know thats alot of money, but coming from someone 12 months ago was getting quotes on 1.2 Corsas for 3.5k i think thats pretty decent!

Also, the other question, i see a lot of people turbo'ing VTR lumps opposed to VTS cos apparently they are 'stronger' is this the case? does the 8v have more bottom end punch or something? cheaper to build? certainly cheaper to buy engines for thats for sure!

Now i could go and spend the money on something like Corsa/Astra VXR or the likes, but I'd use it on track days etc and if i was to stuff it, I've built the engine, not the Saxo, i could reshell it for pocket money opposed to buying another car.

So whats your thoughts/insurance prices with the declarations?

Vtr engine Stronger? Where you read that?

Its cheaper to turbo 8v, but 8v?

I paid £1400 to insure my turbo'd vts at 21 and that was running 190 bhp

And there's next to no advantage to turbo'ing a vtr over an s, only advantage is that it's cheaper to replace the engine parts if something goes wrong, other than that 16v all the way

I'm with Brentacre and all my turbo setup is declared, wouldn't go anywhere else from them.

I changed half way through my policy from my GTI and it only cost me £85 extra as a one off payment from my current policy price, I pay iirc £650 I'm 23.

I was seriously surprised how little it went up, it's honestly not worth not delcaring, if you can't afford the insurance don't turbo plus it's for your own peace of mind too

Best off looking for your own quotes.. It's diff for everyone

What I will say.. Untill recently it's always been cheaper for me personally to Insure a vtr turbo with all mods then a standard vts lol

Don't know how that works out but presently I can insure the same spec gti turbo for less then my vtr

Im currently with Elephant something like that is definatly worth declaring, all it takes is a in the no copper and potentially your fecked, or in the likes of an accident, fecked x2
