Saxo VTR - Wont Start

  1. #1
    Hello guys,

I've looked all over Saxperience Forum and noticed many people are having issues when it comes to their cars not starting, but none seem to be the same reasons as mine.

I bought a 97 Saxo VTR about a week ago now as a run around. When I went to collect the car, I was told by the seller he had to bump start it earlier that day as it had been sitting around for a few weeks. It started fine via the Key when I collected it. I've driven the car everyday since, and when starting, it fires first time, but sounds like it could do with a little more life when it does it?

Today I went to use the car, and it wouldn't start. What happens is very inconsistent. I turn the key, and it could either turn over repeatedly, then I could try again straight away, and it would only do 1 turn over and stop? I've checked the battery, and it reads 12.4v, so I know it's not flat.

Any suggestions? Sorry if I haven't explained clearly, I don't have an in depth knowledge on cars like most, just the basics

    Dear Jay Jasper.
The first thing you would need to do, is to " check " that your vehicle is " charging " correctly.
To do this, you need to put your voltmeter onto the positive terminal and onto the negitive terminal, and go inside the car and put on all the lights, fan blowers, hazards and heated rear window etc, and hold the the cars throttle at 3,000 rpm, and take your reading;- It should read between 13.6 volts and 14.2 volts.
If your car is charging " correctly, then you would need to take your cars battery to a battery supplying place, and have your battery " drop-tested " This will check to see if your battery is on its last legs, and a new one may be needed.
    I hope this helps,
    Vince.
