Speedo Mileage jumping thousounds?

   so i was told it isnt the original speedo when i bought the car because it only had 40k on there, but i was driving the other day and it jumped from 40k something to 50k something? 3 digits turnt at once...!!!
   
   
   any ideas?

   Digital dial or analogue dials mate?Easily corrected drive in reverse.

   lol reminds me of the time by mates speedo reset itself from 90k to 800miles
   but that was digital... didnt think there was much to go wrong with an analogue odometer
