Blowing Exhaust

  1. #1
Ok i fitted a new exhaust today and everything went well however there is a nice big blow coming from the join from the manafold to the center pipe. The joint it self is like rounded washer? to make it fit better? and the bots are on springs.

the blow is pretty bad and the car sounds shite and i look like a cunt.

Whats the best way to join the center pipe to the manafold? can i take the washer out and just bolt the two pipes together?

When you say big rounded washer....do you mean the fire ring? its like a metal wired compressed together in a ring shape, one side is rounded and the other side is flat? and its about 2" big? if so then no you cant remove it, thats the bit thats supposed to seal the exhaust and also should let it flex a little (hence the springs/bolt setup) Did you fit the bolts properly/are they the correct length for your exhaust, the joint should be pretty tight and not moving around freely

Yeahh Fire ring sounds right, it's blowing straight out the side of it. I've tryed wacking the bolts up but don't seem to mate a difference and i'm more then sure i put them on correctly as i took note of how i took it off.

I used the same fire ring that was use with the exhaust set up for a decatted VTR. Should i use the fire ring that was on my standard exhaust? Maybe it's a difference size?

This is what i mean about the rounded washer - Fire ring - http://www.ebspares.co.uk/SHOP/EB4/pic/EB8096.JPG

Would it work if i fitted something like this with the springs so it flexes? http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/3/0...59992030_o.jpg

+1 here, just fit a new ring and spread a little exhaust paste all around when fitting, bobs your uncle. No point in tightening the springs too much you have to leave some flex just enough so it doesn't squeak or blow

That's the one, and would get and fit the whole kit tbh http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FK90860B-E...-/300634242307

My local bullseye do the fire rings for £1 iirc.
Just put some exhaust paste around it and do the new one up. If you have a new exhaust it will be a slightly differany shape and your old one will be matched to your old pipe.

cheers for the help guys, gonna try my old fire ring and see if that makes a differece with the blow and if it does ill get some paste etc for a better fit.

Ok i put the old fire ring that was originally on my standard exhaust filled with exhaust paste and it stopped the blowing completely. However the bracket that connects the pipe to the silencer is vibrating agents the car making a loud vibrating noise behind the hand break in the car.

Any way to stop this? Maybe stick the foam over the top of it?

just use slightly longer backbox hangers? Don't put foam on that it might just burn.
