Important! : Bottom linkage too short?!

  1. #1
    Hey guys

Changed my gear box and bought new constella linkages

I take it there are 2 the same length and the longer one for the top? Thats what ive got and they worked before.

The bottom linkage seems too short as it keeps pulling the golf ball joint off and causes it to foul on the exhaust.

Im just wondering if it is different for different models? E.g. mk1 and mk2 vtr

Im 90% sure we had to change the bottom pin on the gear box as the one on the new box was snapped. (Was 2 bolts so cant be on wrong??)

    Confused about this one!

    Any help?
    Cheers

The linkages youve been sent, are they the same length as the originals?

Take some clear pictures of the bracket you have changed and we will tell you if its on right or wrong (sales@constella.co.uk)

We have sold Thousands of these and not had this problem

Yeah im pretty sure the problem is my end im by no means having a go at the product lol

I can only find the long original one but have checked with another member and the bottom 2 should be the same length

Cant circle it as im on my phone but its the bolt and the pin below where the linkage is connected (one connected is the middle link)

Could we have put it on the wrong way round? So passenger side as opposed to nearer the driver side?

    Does this make sense?

It only fits on one way, theres an indent in it that mounts of a protrusion on the box casing.
Also have you changed the lower gearbox mount?
  7. #7
Yeah the lower mount is on and solid

So what could it be if it only fits on one way?
  8. #8
get some better pictures with the linkages fitted, or at least as fitted as they can be

Last pic probably shows it the best

The linkage is on but the ball is already half way out. The top gears are fine (1,3,5) but the bottom gears are the problem coz thats when the ball is pulled out.

The whole cup needs moving by about 20mm to the drivers side, but the linkage is right so must be the pin nearer the passenger side thats the problem

that bracket only goes on one way though. Is the linkage hitting the exhaust when you shift gears?
  11. #11
are you sure the lower mount is on the right way round soo many people put it on the wrong way (including me when im in a rush) and it causes linkage problems
  12. #12
also are you missing an exhaust bolt? lol
  13. #13
Might be that the mounts wrong then?

You can get that out without removing the box cant ya?

And yeah i am missing a bolt coz i couldnt get it in coz the golf ball was fouling it, but now theres enough room since ive played about

Also the exhaust needs to be higher as the bolt holding it up isnt on either but can be now
  14. #14
yea its a simple job to flip it around
  15. #15
Will it really make that much difference though? As in effectively moving the gearbox an inch closer?
  16. #16
Yes if its on wrong, the box sits awkwardly
  17. #17
    Ohh decent

    Might be problem solved then

Will get under tomorrow and investigate

    Cheers guys!

Might have time tomorrow if not sunday

    Right guys

Got the bottom mount off, turned it round and put it back on but now it wont fit in the cup thingy that was holding it, so i can only assume it was on the right way beforehand?

thats weird, you can bolt it on both ways, ive done it on a couple occasions when in a rush and plenty of people on here have bolted it on the wrong way so it should bolt on the right and wrong way, apart from this i dont really have a clue
