Car sounds like a tractor :(

  1. #1
A couple of weeks ago my car lost all power and started to sound like a tractor!

I got told by a mate that it was crank sensor, today i changed my crank sensor and went to start my car up. It started but is still sounding like a tractor.

I revved it a few times and it sounds very rough, it will idle at 600 and then just die.

Anyone have any idea what it could be ?

TDC sensor. Mine did the same.
  3. #3
Where the tdc sensor located ?
  4. #4
    At the Flywheel
  5. #5
Are they easy to replace ? (sorry for all the questions)

    Check the usual suspects.

Coilpack first. Always a popular option.
    Condition of all spark plugs.
    Compression on all cylinders.
    Sensors (so TPS, crank etc).

    Report back.

Changed all the sparks mate to no avail, when i took the coilpack off there was some oil on the end of it. I'm guessing it has seeped through from the head.

Crank sensor got changed today but didn't really do anything.

so you haven't changed the coilpack?

What condition (colour) were the sparkplugs? One black, rest all brown etc?
  12. #12
One of them was black at the bottom and the others looked ok but i just changed them all

Haven't changed the coil pack yet as i went to gsf and they gave me the wrong one

borrow one from a mate to test - no point swapping out a good one. If your mates works fine, yours is fucked.

Good chance if its sounding agricultural is the map sensor.
But before swapping the sensor for a known good one. Unpick the tape off the wireing and check for breaks. Ive seen loads where the wire snaps. Its usually pretty tight where it comes off the main loom.
Meter the wires if you can as sometimes itl be broken but the pvc covering isnt.

    ill check that aswell thanks.

if your going to do it you might aswell do cambelt or buy new engine might be cheaper & easier.

I know it's been on the track but since my ownership witch is about 5 months i hardly ever rag it. Get called a woman driver by many as i never race or take it past 5k.
