Which oil filter?

   I have a saxo vtr, 2001 on a 'Y' reg. I bought an oil filter off ebay which looks to be the normal screw on type. The listing says it will fit.
   
   But looked in the engine bay earlier on and it has a plastic cover on top. Does this just protect the oil filter or have I bought the wrong type?

   Just don't wanna change the oil, whip the filter out to find I've got the wrong one!

   Sounds like you have the paper filter type, off the block.
   
   This filter is for on the block, whether they are the same i am not 100% sure but I'm more confident they aren't.

   It wont fit, thats a mk1 filter.
   
   Bloke on ebay is a dumb ass.

   Yeah I've messaged him. Said that because its not as described can he either refund the original price + my return postage or send the correct one and I'll return the current one.
   
   Is that reasonable?

   His fault = full refund. He can organise collection of wrong item or refund you return postage if you're kind enough to do that.
   
   You should be restored to the position you were in prior to the transaction so he needs to cover all costs. Personally I'd expect them to send another FOC - return postage going to gist all the thing is worth anyway.

   If he wont sort it out for you mate get a paypal claim in and ill sort you a paper insert one out for less than that. (just been nice and wont make any money)

   I've been exchanging emails for weeks via ebay, then through their returns site and now a case on ebay but all they are willing to do is return the initial price of the item and the postage (which was free) but not my returns postage. To be honest, I'm not majorly fussed as its only a fiver but its principle.
   
   Are there any actual standards that I can stick in their face to make them pay my returns postage?

    HD7. Your obligation is to make it available for him to collect that's all. The law is very clear on the matter, and despite what others are saying "it's only a few quid" etc I stand on principle too. I'm not prepared to be out of pocket for someone else's mistake.
    
    Tell him it's boxed up ready for them to collect it if they want.
    
    DSR's cover this exact situation. You don't have to pay for return postage on faulty goods.
