Important! : Car wouldn't start this morning...

Was ready to set off for work today, got in the car and when I turned the key, the car fired into a spluttering mess, half started, then died.

Tried it again, same thing. It spluttered, lasted about half a second then cut off.

After a couple of more tries, I thought to put my foot on the accelerator and when the revs came back down it cut out again.

The way i started her in the end was holding my foot on accelerator for about 10 seconds and then she stayed alive and drove to work as normal.

Just as an additional point, it was bitterly cold this morning.

    What would cause this, thanks.

Had the same problem the other day & it was a loose connection on the tps(back of throttle body)next to icv mate.

    You got antifreeze?

Yeah anti freeze is in there. Sometimes she starts up perfect in cold. It's just the odd occasion where its really lumpy and yesterday it's the first time it's done that.

What's the condition your battery ? Failing battery can cause all manor a weird stuff

My battery is only about 6 months old. I'm thinking coil pack perhaps too ?

I had a similar thing happen on my fiat coupe were it was running really ruffly once it got to normal temperature, was a combination of failing coilpack and injector that was suffering from heat soak, pull the plugs see what condition there in.
