1.4 Furio Drinking Water?

  1. #1
Hello Gang, il try and be as detailed as possible...

I have a 2000 (W) plate saxo furio 1.4 on 112thou it seems to be drinking alot of water as of late.....

The temp gauge is all over the place sometimes it'll stay low sometimes it will stay half way sometimes it likes to hit the red now although that happens the car still blows out warm air and aint loosing no power.

its recently had an oil change and theres no sign of cream in the oil or on the dipstick but there's cream on/in the groove on the oil filler cap (but as we no saxo's do condensate quite alot) so putting the cream down to that (not to a failing head gasket), i am 100% certain that there is no water leak on there as i had the car running whilst on four axel stands and me laying underneath....

if anyone could shed some light on this situation it would be very much appreciated

    Many Thanks

Could be a long shot but you checked all hoses and raiator, could be loosing water and drawing air creating a temp air lock what could be causing your temp gauge to be all over the place, and is it smoking or smelling funny ?

Get the cooling system pressure tested,a radiator may look good but a pressure test will reveal where the water is being lost from.

    Your headgasket has gone.
  5. #5
Is the water in the header tank going down?
  6. #6
if the headgasket had gone it wouldn't be blowing warm air.

yeah the water in the rad tank is going down, checked hoses and rad seems ok all dry around hoses and rad, its slightly smokey but not alot and the exhaust fumes dont smell at all strong,

im gunna get it pressure tested tommorow hopefully, so il let you know the outcome of that

any further info on the situation will be much appreciated

    Many Thanks

It can still blow warm air if the head gasket has gone, leak might be very slight on the gasket. Water can be getting into the oil and just boiling off

Bit of a dodgey move nip head bolts 25 degrees if it stops drinking water temporarily new head gasket time.

thanks for the input guys its much appreciated honestly

just a heads up took it to a local garage this morning had it pressure tested & petrol tested, both reveal NOTHING so its not a headgasket problem,

therefore i am now COMPLETELY boggled as to why this blooming car is drinking so much water,

    HELP HELP HELP :L

    Many Thanks

Fuck that, I wouldnt want to run the risk of a snapping a bolt

Sniff tests dont always work but a pressurising the system should help. Did the water drop after the test?

    Maybe its just thirsty?

Try a new rad cap, might be faulty and venting!

Rather you than me, the bolts have specific tolerances and they arent designed to be exceeded. I've done it with K-series head bolts and snapped them which meant a sump off job and oil rail out to fix, not nice but worse on a TU

obviously there's a leak. Hunt for cristal deposits and you will find it. Blue/white if you have summer coolant and pink if you have some winter coolant.

Yeah I've snapped new head bolts before just torquing them up pot luck half of the time haha.

I honestly think your headgasket has gone and the sniff test has not read it correctly.

I would also say the headgasket has gone

    Thanks again guys,

Gandi- well as i say the gent at the garage first done a pressure test and nothing gave any signs of HGF, water levels didnt drop either, he then done a sniff test which also revealed nothing :/ he does head skimming and all so if he's saying the headgasket hasnt gone then im pretty sure he knows more than others saying the headgaskets gone,

it actually boggled his mind as to why its drinking so much water aswell, although he did say/point out that the resivoure next to the head that feeds water and oil he said the seal could be gone in there and the water's mixing with the oil there and using so much water.

    Many Thanks

What reservoir is that? If he means the header tank oil should not be getting into that.
a furio doesn't have any way for the oil and water to interact (unlike some spec 8vs and 16vs that have a oil to water heat exchange) unless the head gasket has gone or you've got a crack/other mechanical damage somewhere.
Sounds to me like they are fobbing you off

If everything else fails could be water pump

It's not pot luck if you're tightening to the correct tolerances .

Oh that's where I'm going wrong just usually buzz em up.
