Seat Mounting Problems

  1. #1
My drivers seat has been squeaking since I got the car, and pretty horrendously. I ended up having to buy a set of bigger torx bits to undo the bolt. It is the front left one on the drivers side that is 'loose'. Slide the seat back and you see it.

Now the bolt was tight but the whole bit was moving. So I thought maybe its a wall plug sort of thing so was going to take the bolt out, have a look and try and wedge something in there to keep it tight. As I got the bolt out I heard something drop, presumably a nut or something. Now the bolt doesn't screw in at all and I have no idea how to get to the bit where it screws in.

Sticking the car on axle stands in the next few days anyway. Is that how it is done up or do you have to rip up the carpet or something?

Was driving me crazy, now made it worse haha!

The seat bolts screw into what should be welded nuts in the floor but sometime they bust out of the floor meaning youll have to re weld it in. If you take the seat completely out and look at the mounting points youll see what i mean

Sorry ment re weld the nut in, sounds like i ment the seat lol
  4. #4
i had it happen lol, yes take seat out you will have a bit of a hole, if you can try put wire down to try get the nut/part of car back, see if you can see it, i messed with it for ages till i put self drillers in & a weld, its a tricky & fiddly but worth a try, other thing is go breakers cut it out & weld into your car.

Could I not just put a lock nut in there? Can it be accessed from undearneath the car?
  6. #6
you can try but i think the hole will be bit big to put one in, my hole was bit bigger than a 50p, & no unless you cut a hole in your floor lol.

thinking about it, there might be a rubber bung but not sure without looking, have look mate.

Christ, I sort of get what you mean. So take out the seat and there is a cutout to get your hand in? How do I take out the seat?! Is it simple?
  8. #8
take seat out & there will be a slot in carpet (showing floor of car) then you'll see your problem, no mate unless you turn yourself into a borrower lol, try get the nut back with peace of wire or something, if not you may have to cut a peace & weld it in, yes 4 bolts, if need be take photo before you do it, its really easy, there may be air bag wire, i didnt take my battery off doing it but if you want be on safe side then do(you may not have the plug so dont panic).

If I can't even reach the nut with my hand how am I gonna weld it in place?
  10. #10
Im gonna end up cable tying the fucker in there haha!
  11. #11
you wont get it with your hand if im honest, i luckily managed hook mine with bit of wire, then held it in place with allenkey best i could while my dad put some self drill screws in, that might do, but took carpet out for obvious reason lol then welded it.

I dont even own a welder. I'm sure I'll find a way to hold it in place, cheers for the heads up!

    np mate goodluck.

Cut out a small square peice of steel

Drill hole for the fixing bolt

Weld a nut on the under side

Spot weld over the broken mount

Bolt seat down with no squeaks

Again though, how do I weld it in there if I can't get a hand in there or is it accesible but its too tight
  16. #16
ill try explain(im no good at it tho) the seat sits on a raised part of the cars floor, the nut seems to have snapped aswell as cracked a hole but without looking you wont know, maybe only the nut has fallen (fingers crossed) if its only the nut you could riv nut it,

saxova means chop the raised part out, cut another part from another car bigger than the hole you have cut in yours, then go about welding it in.

the nut the seat bolts to is between the insides floor & the underneath welded (sits between two layers of the cars chassis) hopefully only the nut has snapped.

Mine did the same - I have a small plate covering the cracked floor with a nut welded underneath for the bolt.

And you weld the nut onto the plate before welding it over the hole ovs.. that's how you get the nut there lol..

Sounds a bit complicated without getting in there and seeing what you guys mean. I really fancy the idea of riv-nutting but its too expensive for a one off application.

Gonna have to find some time tomorrow or wednesday to pull the seat out and have a proper look.

I'll take a pic in the morning so you know what I mean.. it's really simple
