  1. #1
Mate of mine keeps on going on saying hes going to uprate his vtr brakes, wants to know whats needed and what cars he can get them from?

    GTI 6
    206 GTI 180

    what else?

and where can he get them from? no scrappys around here have any in

    rep for help

    pug gti 6 (283mm)
    pug 180's (283mm)
    pug 206 gti (266mm)

    top two needing 15inch wheel
your gonna need calipers, discs, not sure on mounts. williams can fill you in.
should cost about 150-200 second hand if you see them.
with the srappy you could use use a company on the net to find you a set. ( cant think of the name now)

also theres a few threads about these brakes recently so have a butchers

Check out simo's new 330mm brakes they are truly mad. I liked them so much I bought a set. Need 16" wheels though.
  4. #4
4 pots are more expencive (500notes ish) but give superb stopping power. Well worth a look
  5. #5
dont really want to be spending that amount of cash at the moment on the brakes thats the only thing!

anyone know if i need the mounts?
  6. #6
check the brake size guide i wrote mate.
  7. #7
need the callipers and carriers from 306gti but the callipers need grinding slightly but remember these are the only things to stop you! do not go mad with a grinder!! I belive you can take them from a citroen berlingo and 307's
  8. #8
Yatesy - you can get a decent setup off a 306 hdi, or 306 xsi , they are 266mm setup which will improve the braking significantly over standard, if his car is just atandard power and not pushing massive bhp then these will be a great upgrade, i have sum in my garage ready to fit that i got from my local scrappy, they cost me £15 each for the calipers, and they give me the disks, put em on my mates lathe tho and theyre like new now, but have a look for them two cars, also i think the 307's less than 1.6 have 266 mm setups on, which will all fit behind 14" rims if he has standards on

yate5y mate, I can put you in touch with the lad with the 106gti from sunday he had 306gti brakes on, had no major problems and was fully finished for less than 300 quid.
  12. #12
dont want to spend that much right now Bill, wondering if i should just get some standard discs for now

dont suppose anyone knows where i can get calipers, carriers, discs and pads from any of the said cars above?

what exactly are carriers mate? i know what calipers discs and pads are just not sure on the rest...
  13. #13
    £300?????? wtf???

i paid £130 for gti 180 callipers and carriers with part worn discs and pads.
then bought new pads for £45 and new discs for about £50.

the carriers are part of the calliper they have the sliders on and also attatch the calliper to the hub.

im sure boz told me today that he had to grind his lol
  33. #33
Yeh if you grind em and dont seal them in some sort of fashion they can oxidize quite quickly.

They dont need grinding a great deal i think is just 2 sort of lines that arent flush on the calliper that need to go.
  34. #34
if boz cant fit then does anyone else fancy fittin them for me?! id happily have ago with the haynes but all this grinder talk scares me lol
  35. #35
ave got the 206 266mm set up. you wont belive the improvement over standard.
