Hi I've got a mk 2 saxo vts. I need a new coil back but forgot to check which one I needed its either grey or black plug. I'm thinking grey but not sure. Can any one help. Cheers.

I've got it and fitted it. The car starts but won't run properly. Do you think it's because it's not been started for a couple if months. It won't idle at all. Just drops out as soon as I lift off. The new coil pack had a black plug but it fitted the existing plug which is grey. I did make a vid but I can't seem put it up. The engine moves abit when it's idle ing lumpy.

    Cheers.

Just tried again and it runs perfect. Started up fine and idled fine. Went for a drive and it still misfires when driving like it did before. I've got new plugs just not fitted them yet. What's next. Head gasket?

Would the black plug one not fit into the grey socket. I'm thinking it might be because its not an official Citroen part that the plug isnt actually grey. I'm going out of my mind here lol.

Yes black and grey plugs are physically the same iirc.

    don't quote me on that.

I heard the only difference is the shape of the plug. Who knows. Cheers anyway mate.

dunno, my 3 plug GTI is grey plug.

I'm sure I recall a thread on 106oc about someone fitting a black plug coil pack to a grey plug

It's very confusing. Considering there is a £40 difference they shouldn't be the same. All I kno is tht the black one fits the grey socket in my car. Hasn't solved the problem tho....

any experiences with Valeo and Beru coil pack? I also want to buy a new pack, and Valeo and Beru are the ones which affordable.

Is the Valeo one a Sagem?

    thanks

Valeo one is more likely to be a Bosch.

I don't think there are any Sagem systems on 106's/Saxo's

Sure the oem ones on the TU5J4 are Sagem coil packs

If t fits it's the correct coilpack, they have different connectors and will not fit.
Is it a new coil pack? It's not unheard of to buy second hand that was dodgy and therefore not working.

It was a new one yeah. I can't remember the make tho. It was £124 inc vat I think. needs a new engine any way Piston seals gone i think.

Cars not been run in a while. I've just noticed some black and white chalky substance in the back box. Doesn't sme great. What are the things to look for when buying a new engine?

    Cheers.

Should of got the grey plug coilpack.

Black and white chalk = been sat outside for months.

Make sure you source a engine from the same year as the car it's going in to save any headaches.
Make sure it turns over by hand easily..
    History/milage/prev work - reciepts etc

Do you 100% need a new engine though? If so why?

I did order the grey plug one but it came with a black plug but still fitted. I was told my piston seals might had gone but that was just me talking to a mechanic. I need to get it down there for a look. .
